About Creighton University
Founded in 1878, Creighton University is a private, Roman Catholic university located just north of downtown Omaha. The historic institution was created through a gift from Mary Lucretia Creighton who established the school in memory of her late husband, prominent businessman Edward Creighton. Also involved in the school’s founding was John A. Creighton, Edward’s younger brother, who was critical to the university’s early development. Today, the school is ranked as the #1 regional university in the Midwest by U.S. News and World Report.
There are just over 8,000 students attending Creighton’s various schools and colleges, which include a College of Arts & Sciences as well as graduate programs in medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy and law. The school is known for its long history of athletic achievement and has competed numerous times in NCAA championships for basketball, soccer, baseball and softball. Located only 15 minutes on foot from Cambria Hotel Omaha Downtown, it’s easy to get into the Bluejay spirit as a visitor of the many sporting events taking place throughout the academic year.
