Omaha's Top Museums

Travelers who wish to soak in the spirit of Omaha’s arts and culture have three great museums to visit when staying close to downtown.

Families can’t help but love the Omaha Children’s Museum. A little over a mile from the Cambria Hotel Omaha Downtown, this educational playground has entertained and enriched young minds since 1976. From a science and technology center with a giant ball machine to a tinker lab and splash garden, this family-friendly museum is where you can count on endless hours of fun on your next trip to Omaha.

Joslyn Art Museum located on Dodge and 24th Street is where the city’s fine art collection lives. Exhibits range from ancient sculptures and European portraits to Latin American artifacts and contemporary paintings. Throughout the month there are free or donation-based events like public tours of Native American art or lectures from the FBI where they explain how they catch art thieves. 

For U.S. History buffs, Durham Museum just south of the Heartland of America Park will give you an in-depth look at the history and culture of the country’s Western region. Their permanent collection includes stepping into a rawhide tepee, viewing an authentic 1804 Dollar and walking through a full-scale replica of an original grocery store from 1915. Even if you go just to see the inside of beautiful Union Station where the museum is located, Durham Museum is well worth the visit.
